A TECHNOLOGY FOR PRODUCING CELLULOSE ETHER HAS BEEN DEVELOPED IN MORDOVIA

Scientists of Mordovian State University named after N.P. Ogarev developed a technology for producing hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), a cellulose ether that is used in industry, construction and oil production. This is reported by the press service of the Mordovian State University.

At the moment, only a few foreign companies produce HPMC, and there is no production of this ether in Russia. Therefore, the production technology developed by Mordovian scientists will solve the problem of import substitution.

The widespread use of HPMC is due to its unique properties – high hygroscopicity and viscosity of aqueous solutions make it possible to create on its basis a highly effective thickener with excellent rheological properties. HPMC improves consistency, provides stability and water retention, for example, in latex paints, building mixes and other products. When using HPMC in construction, the adhesion of mortars increases, shrinkage and cracking are reduced.

The development of technology for the production of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is carried out within the framework of the strategic project “New Generation Materials and Energy Conservation” of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science “Priority 2030” program.
