HEAD OF THE REPUBLIC OF MORDOVIA DISCUSSED THE ISSUES OF THE FIBER-OPTIC PRODUTION IN SARANSK

Head of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov held a business meeting with the CEO of JSC Optovolokonnye sistemy (Fiber-Optic Systems) Andrey Nikolayev. Head of the Republic of Mordovia’s Press Office states that they discussed the results of the company’s work in 2018 and their plans for 2019. Deputy Prime Minister – the Minister of Industry, Science and New Technologies Aleksandr Sedov also took part in the discussion.

The CEO Andrey Nikolayev reported to the Head of the Republic that the company produced 1.9 million kilometers of optical fiber and had a net profit for the first time.

It’s worth mentioning that at first the company planned to produce 2.4 million kilometers of optical fiber per year. Right now the company uses the Russian Industry Development Fund’s support in increasing the production capacity up to 4 million kilometers. Installation of the extra technological equipment and engineering systems was finished in December 2018. Right now the commissioning works are under way.

Head of the Republic of Mordovia went to Finland to meet the management of the technological equipment supplier in November 2018 and he also monitored the first shipment of equipment to Mordovia. Besides, Vladimir Volkov examined the Finnish partners’ production of the blanks for the optical fiber extraction.

These blanks (also called pre-forms) are planned to be produced in Saransk. It will be the second phase of production. Right now the company buys those pre-forms in Japan.

Head of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov stated the huge importance of this project. “For us it is fundamentally important. It will stop our dependence on imported goods and help build a closed-loop optical fiber production cycle in Saransk”, said the Head of the Republic.

The project preparation issues were discussed during this business meeting.
