IN MORDOVIA SCIENTISTS HAVE DEVELOPED A NEW SEMICONDUCTOR MATERIAL
The first in Russia bulk single crystal of silicon carbide 100 mm in diameter and over 15 mm wide was produced with industrial growth units in a laboratory of N.P. Ogarev Mordovia State University.
It is a part of Russia’s unique project on growing and treatment of silicon carbide single crystals and another stage of Mordovia’s project on semiconductor single crystals production for power and radio electronics.
The aim of the project is to develop technological opportunities of the Republic of Mordovia and the Russian Federation in the sphere of silicon and silicon carbide single crystal production.
Interim Head of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov: “We have significantly succeeded in the development of silicon carbide single crystals since 2000. Now we are going to build up a complete production cycle of growing and treatment of silicon carbide single crystals for Russian military-industrial complex, metallurgy, rocket engineering and IT”.
The next stage of the project will make Mordovia the leader in production of electronic devices of new generation based on scientific and innovative potential of the university, production opportunities of Electrovypryamitel plant and innovative infrastructure of the republic.
