Medicines from Mordovia to be shipped to Egypt and the UAE
On the sidelines of the Russia — Islamic World forum in Kazan, the Mordovia team is actively working to strengthen international ties. During a meeting between Artem Zdunov, Head of Mordovia, and Ahmed El‑Sobki, Chairman of the Health Authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt, pharmaceutical partnership was discussed.
“Mordovia’s economic case can be seen as a model: you have managed to significantly improve the economic situation and reduce the debt burden in a short time,” emphasised Ahmed El‑Sobki. “We had a chance to get acquainted with your companies at the stand. We were particularly impressed by the pharmaceutical industry.”
It was noted that the Promomed group of companies is one of the leaders in the Russian pharmaceutical industry. The Biokhimik plant in Saransk produces more than 330 medicinal drugs. These are intended to treat a wide range of diseases — neurological and infectious conditions, oncology, and diabetes. Another 150 drugs are under development, including fifth‑generation antibiotics.
A scientific base has been established at Ogarev Mordovia State University: the Centre for Biotechnology and Medicine is developing genetically engineered drugs for the treatment of diabetes and obesity.
“We view Egypt as a promising direction for expanding export supplies, industrial cooperation, and scientific and educational interaction. By the end of 2025, exports to the Arab state amounted to nearly 84 thousand dollars,” said Artem Zdunov.
It is worth recalling that Mordovia and Egypt have well‑established humanitarian ties: students from the Arab country study at Ogarev Mordovia State University. This year, charter flights from Saransk to Sharm El‑Sheikh were launched — the air connection promotes tourism and simplifies logistics for business trips and export‑import operations.
In addition, the Mordovia delegation met with the leadership of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism of the United Arab Emirates. Plans to increase mutual trade turnover were discussed.
