MORDOVIA SCIENTISTS HAVE PATENTED A NEW TYPE OF SELF-HEALING CONCRETE
Scientists of the Mordovian State University named after N.P. Ogarev, together with co-authors from Iraq, received the fourth Eurasian patent for the invention of self-healing concrete. The university has already developed 3 types of self-healing concrete. The invention of 2022 is distinguished by the technology of using microorganisms of various nature and special modifiers. When cracks appear in structures based on self-healing concrete, they are healed under the control of bacteria as a result of the formation of mineral sediment.
To date, in Russia, old and transitional generation concrete is used in the construction of buildings and structures. The development of scientists from the Mordovian State University will help to switch to the use of new generation concretes, which are promising and open up new opportunities in increasing the durability of buildings and structures.In structures made of such concrete, a self-healing mechanism occurs with the help of microorganisms without human intervention.The developed material will be used in the construction of structures that are difficult to assess their quality: in the construction of bridges, the construction of basements and mines.
As a result of the application of this technology, the resulting concrete and reinforced concrete structures based on it have a degree of durability more than 3 times higher, and strength - 1.5 times compared to traditional concrete.
