MORDOVIAN SCIENTISTS HAVE CREATED A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL BASED ON MULTILAYER PACKAGING WASTE
Scientists from Mordovian State University have developed a polymer composite that includes recycled polyethylene and waste from multilayer TetraPak packaging (products made from cardboard, foil, and polyethylene). This was reported on the university's official website.
The material is likely to attract interest from companies in the construction and furniture manufacturing sectors. It can be used to create flooring and wall coverings, paving tiles, furniture facades, and partitions.
Currently, the recycling of multilayer TetraPak packaging involves complex technologies that separate it into aluminum, cardboard, and polyethylene. The method developed by the Mordovian scientists is more accessible and straightforward, potentially significantly simplifying the process of utilizing this type of waste.
As noted by Dmitry Glushko, the Rector of Mordovian State University named after N.P. Ogarev, the use of recycled materials is an important step towards reducing production costs, effectively consuming resources, and improving the environmental situation. The new invention can be used to manufacture engineering and technical products, creating conditions for the conscious utilization of polyethylene and TetraPak packaging.
This work was carried out as part of the Next-Generation Materials and Energy Saving strategic project under the Priority-2030 program.
