SPIEF-2024: HEAD OF MORDOVIA: PHARMACEUTICALS ARE A GROWTH POINT FOR OUR INDEPENDENCE AND SOVEREIGNTY

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the priority areas of development in the structure of national social policy, the economy, and the global market. The Russian pharmaceutical industry is evolving in the face of modern foreign policy challenges and the pursuit of import substitution. This topic was discussed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 during the session “Advanced Pharmaceutical Industry of Russia: Unique Developments, New Technologies, and Sectoral Leadership”, where the Head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, participated.

According to the approved Pharma-2030 strategy, within six years, the share of Russian full-cycle drugs on the domestic market is expected to increase to 70%. Among the main trends are a focus on import substitution, the production of innovative drugs, and the use of advanced biotechnological solutions. The key success factor in this endeavor is the interaction between pharmaceutical industry leaders and regional authorities.

It's worth reminding that in Mordovia lies the largest enterprise of the Promomed Group of Companies. Biokhimik is one of the industry leaders. The company's portfolio includes more than 300 types of medicinal products, 80% of which are considered vital.

It was emphasized that Promomed is one of the largest investors in the region, a major employer, and taxpayer, as well as one of the largest customers for highly skilled personnel from Ogarev Mordovia University. Currently, top-notch specialists from Moscow and other regions come to the republic to work at Biokhimik.

The Head of Mordovia also emphasized what the region is doing for the pharmaceutical company. Firstly, it creates a favorable investment climate. Collaboration is also established in workforce preparation, starting from kindergarten, and in conducting a wide range of research. Ogarev Mordovia State University and Promomed are also participating jointly in the Priority-2030 program.

Also speaking at the session were Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Ekaterina Priyezzheva, Managing Director, Director of the Healthcare Industry Center at Sberbank PJSC Sergey Zhdanov, Managing Director of the Biomedical Technologies Center at the Skolkovo Foundation Kamila Zarubina, and First Vice President of Gazprombank Denis Shulakov. Participants discussed changes in the pharmaceutical market in Russia over the past year, the challenges facing the industry, and incentives for developing its scientific and technological potential.
