The Head of Mordovia and the republic’s delegation met with Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev
On 21 August, Artem Zdunov, Head of the Republic, discussed the key areas and prospects for trade and economic cooperation between Mordovia and Uzbekistan with Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan.
It is worth recalling that the Republic of Uzbekistan is one of Mordovia’s key foreign trade partners in Central Asia. Since 2022, the foreign trade turnover has increased 2.5‑fold. Mordovia exports pharmaceuticals, sugar and confectionery products, plastic goods, aluminium, glass, railway cars, and electrical equipment to Uzbekistan. In turn, Uzbek manufacturers supply the republic with high‑quality zinc and knitwear.
“We see huge, as yet untapped potential for further expanding our mutually beneficial strategic partnership,” said the Head of Mordovia during the meeting. “We are linked by close, long‑standing economic relations, which are now experiencing a period of growth. Not only trade and economic ties, but also the humanitarian dimension of our partnership is expanding rapidly — cooperation in higher education and the exchange of experience is growing significantly. We will focus our joint projects on such areas as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and railcar manufacturing.”
It was noted that significant work had been done over the few days of the visit, and important meetings had taken place, during which specific forms of cooperation were discussed. The involvement of labour resources could also become an additional driver for economic growth. Currently, about 1,500 citizens of Uzbekistan are working in Mordovia, while others are acquiring qualifications and opportunities for career advancement.
An important part of the recent business mission was a large‑scale bilateral business forum that brought together dozens of representatives from the business communities of both republics. It resulted in concrete, legally binding agreements and contracts for the supply of goods. This kind of cooperation will help to access other markets in Central Asia in the future.
As Chairman of the State Council Commission of the Russian Federation on the “Family” track, Artem Zdunov noted that during his visit to Uzbekistan, he studied the country’s experience in the field of demography and family support. The country is notable not only for its high birth rates, but also for the conditions that help families feel confident about the future.
“The outcomes of this business mission will serve as a solid foundation for long‑term and mutually beneficial partnership. Joint projects will bring real, tangible results for the residents of both Uzbekistan and Mordovia,” said Jamshid Khodjaev.
