THE REPUBLIC HAS ADOPTED A LAW ON THE USE OF THE WORD “MORDOVIA” IN THE NAMES OF LEGAL ENTITIES

The Republic of Mordovia has become one of the regions to adopt a law regulating the use of official names in the titles of legal entities. This regulatory act is aimed at protecting the region's brand and preventing its name from being used by unscrupulous companies.

Before the adoption of the law, the words “Mordovia”, “Republic of Mordovia”, and derivatives of the region's name could be used by any commercial legal entities. However, now, to use the official name of the region in the title of a commercial organization, it will be necessary to meet one of the criteria established by this law.

The idea of adopting this law to protect the republic's brand was initiated by a young scientist, Ksenia Kochkurova, a senior lecturer at the Department of Civil Law and Procedure at Mordovian State University named after N. P. Ogarev. According to Article 54 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, constituent entities of the Russian Federation are entitled to adopt regulatory acts that establish procedures for using their official names in the titles of legal entities.
